My beloved is mine: Britten, Ligeti and Schubert
February 23, 2024
Vieve Gore Concert Hall
Britten’s Canticles is a collection of songs written for tenor Peter Pears. Pears was Britten’s lifelong muse and partner and the emotional and musical vulnerability found in these songs and countless other stage works speaks to the depth of their relationship. On display alongside the poetry of Britten and Schubert is music featuring the french horn. For centuries, people have used the horn in alpine landscapes, hunting calls and ceremonial celebrations. This concert displays the instrument’s full range in Ligeti’s Horn Trio and Schubert’s soaring melodic contours in Auf dem Strom.
